Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Kate Smith earned her master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of Oregon in 1988. Following several years of practice as a licensed professional counselor in an outpatient counseling and alcohol and drug treatment setting, Kate continued her formal education at Oregon Health & Science University, earning a master’s degree (2005) and Doctor of Philosophy (2013) in nursing. Since 2005, Kate has practiced as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) with adults and young adults in outpatient, community mental health, and college student health settings. In addition to her practice of general psychiatric medication management, Kate has particular interest in individuals with depressive, bipolar, and psychotic disorders, and especially in empowering individuals to be advocates for and drivers of their own mental health and wellbeing.
